Is Pride Night coming up? In fact, it could be months from now. Chances are that you’ve already been thumbing through your wardrobe wondering exactly what you should be wearing for Pride Night. We’re going to make things a little bit easier for you.
We have asked a lot of LGBTQ people what they wear for Pride Night (and looked through a ton of pictures), and have a couple of tips and tricks for you. We aren’t going to give you specific outfits here. Fashion changes from year to year. Instead, we want to give you a few ideas that should get your brain working and, hopefully, help you to decide just what you’re going to wear on what is the best night of the year.
Wear What You Want
Honestly, this slots in perfectly as tip number 1 – wear whatever you want.
We think that a lot of people are so wrapped up in the idea of Pride Night being an LGBTQ event that they completely forget that the actual idea is a celebration of who you are. It is one of the few times of the year when many people can let their hair down and celebrate whoever they are as a person.
So, why not wear what you want? There are no rules here. If you have an outfit in your wardrobe that you think you’ll look pretty dapper wearing, then pull it out and put it on. We promise you that there won’t be a single person at that Pride Night who is judging you for what you are wearing. In fact, they will probably be proud of you for getting out there and having a ton of fun!
Because of this whole ‘wear what you want’ philosophy, whenever you head to Pride Night, you’ll see people dressed in all sorts of amazing kit. You have everything from your normal outfits to people dressed up in leather thongs, latex suits, and more. We don’t know about you, but we absolutely love seeing what sort of clothing people whip out for the night.
If you still want some ideas, then closer to Pride Night, we suggest that you Google ‘Pride outfit ideas’, you’ll get plenty of suggestions. We recommend that you don’t follow them directly, though. Instead, try and put your own unique twist on the outfit so it becomes ‘yours’.

Consider What You’re Doing on Pride Night
Obviously, a lot of your outfit choices will be swayed by whatever you plan on doing on Pride Night. The clothes that you are going to be wearing if you go to a bar or club would be completely different from the clothes that you will be wearing if you go to a high-class nightclub where you are socializing with the upper class.
Colors of the Pride Flag
Almost every single outfit that we see people rock on Pride Night will involve the Pride Flag in some way. Well, not always the Pride Flag. People seem to wear something that symbolizes their sexuality. For example, while the Pride Flag is something that is meant to represent LGBTQ as a whole, you may want to be more specific. For example, if you’re a pansexual, then there is a flag for you. If you’re lesbian, there is a flag for you. Although, don’t worry too much about that. The vast majority of people stick with the Pride Flag since it is, without a doubt, one of the most recognizable flags in the LGBTQ community.
Now, you could drape yourself with the Pride Flag, if you want. You could wear a graphic tee that is just the colors of the Pride Flag. However, we like to be a bit more subtle for Pride Night. We don’t want our entire outfit shaped by the Pride Flag (since everybody else would be doing that too). We just add a few cool accessories that make our outfits pop. For example, you could wear a wristband with your flag colors on it, or you could wear a particularly fancy necklace that has been laced with beautiful flag colors. The choice is yours.
Remember, Pride is all about being whatever you want to be, not following any rules. Do that. Try to come up with creative ways to incorporate that Pride Flag into your clothing!

Ask Your Friends What They’re Wearing
If you have ever been to a Pride Night before, you’ll know many people coordinate outfits with their friends. This could be something simple like wearing broadly the same outfit, just to show that you’re a group. Or, it could be a more complicated outfit such as a costume.
If you are planning on going to Pride Night with a few people, then have a chat with them. Ask them what they plan to be wearing for that big night. See if you can throw some ideas between one another. At the very least, it will ensure that one of you doesn’t turn up in a complete latex bodysuit, while everybody else is just wearing a couple of graphic tees and the like. Basically, everybody is going to be on the same page.
Graphic Tees
We know that graphic tees can seen as somewhat basic if you are trying to live at the height of fashion, but there are a few reasons why we recommend graphic tees when you are getting dressed up for Pride Night festivities:
- You can convey a message on them easily.
- They are comfortable to wear
- They are cheap to buy
- They are very easy to build an outfit around.
When Pride Month starts to roll around, you’ll start to see more and more clothing companies offer graphic tees, and you can probably pick up a few of them. We are sure that you won’t have any issues finding something that matches your personality perfectly.
We always enjoy building an outfit around our graphic tees, because it is so simple. Chuck on a pair of pants and you are ready to roll. Sure, just about everybody else on Pride Night is going to be rolling around with some graphic tees on, but so what? Each will have a different message (we hope), and it is a way of giving yourself a bit of personal flair without going over the top.
Accessorize With a Convenient Bag
We can promise you that the vast majority of people on Pride Night will be rolling around with a bag. It isn’t just for style purposes either. It is just so much more convenient.
We don’t know if you have ever done Pride before, but it is an insanely long day. It is a fun day, but it is insanely long. So, it makes sense to bring along a bag that has been loaded with the essentials for a night out. For example:
- Sunglasses
- Sunscreen
- Condoms (or whatever protection you plan on using)
- A hat
- A bottle of water (especially if you are in a hotter city for Pride Night)
- Some extra cash – just in case.
Honestly, we are sure that you already know what to put in a bag for going out. Chances are that you’ve been out countless times in your life. The reason why we are mentioning it here is because so many people forget to bring a bag along for Pride Night. They are just so focused on the rest of their outfit.
Comfortable Shoes
Once again, Pride Night will come at the end of an incredibly long day. You could be partying for a good 16-20 hours. Wear the right shoes.
We have been to many Pride NIghts in our time, and you wouldn’t believe the number of people who figured they could get through the night wearing a pair of high heels. We don’t care who you are. That just isn’t going to happen. Sure, you’re going to look sexy for the first part of the day, but once you start hobbling around at the 6-7 hour mark because your feet hurt, you lose some of that allure.
Just wear a decent pair of flat-soled shoes (and make sure that it isn’t the first time you are wearing them). They’ll look OK, and your feet won’t be whinging as the night goes on.
Consider the Weather
Pride Nights (mostly) take place in June. So, it should be pretty hot, especially if you are going to Pride Night in San Francisco or something. However, it is always worth checking out the weather. You can then dress accordingly.
What About Your Hair?
We know that there are some people who don’t consider hair part of fashion, but we do. Make sure that you accessorize your hair when heading out to Pride Night. How you do it is up to you.
Some people will dye their hair in temporary colors (e.g. the rainbow flag), while others will go all-out and use permanent dye. You may want to consider a wig.
Once again, it is all about being who you want to be. There are no rules here. Go with whatever makes you feel comfortable!
Final Thoughts
There you have it! If you are wondering what to wear for Pride Night, you have plenty of tips here. Although, they pretty much all boil down to – wear whatever makes you feel comfortable. There are no rules for Pride Night. It is all about being yourself. If yourself is just wearing whatever you do during your day-to-day life, then go with that. If it is wearing a latex or leather outfit, go with that. Do whatever puts a smile on your face and you’ll have so much more fun on Pride Night.
