Is Kit Connor LGBTQ?

Kit Connor has gained a lot of traction since starring alongside Joe Locke in Netflix’s Heartstopper.

Is Kit Connor LGBTQ

Since then, many people have been asking whether he’s a member of the LGBTQ community, and it’s no surprise that the young actor has spoken out on this.

Officially, Kit Connor has refused to define and label his sexuality for a good reason.

Since starring in Heartstopper, fans have wanted him to define his sexuality and discover whether he’s a part of the LGBTQ community.

But the star is still young, and he doesn’t get the need to make assumptions about someone else’s sexuality.

Officially, Connor is allowed privacy to his sexuality. After all, he only turned 18 in 2022, and not everyone knows everything about themselves at this age.

Who Is Kit Connor?

Kit Connor is a British actor who stars as Nick Nelson in the Netflix series Heartstopper.

He also played the voice of Pantalaimon in His Dark Materials, the BBC adaptation of Philip Pullman’s novels from 2019 to 2022.

Over the years, he has played various roles in film and TV, where he’s even played a young Elton John in the 2019 film: Rocketman.

What Is Heartstopper?

Heartstopper is a Netflix adaptation of Alice Oseman’s Heartstopper graphic novels. The series was first published on Tumblr and Tapas in 2016 as a webcomic.

In 2018, she planned to self-publish a limited run of the first two chapters and even launched a Kickstarter campaign, but seeing the success, Hachette acquired the rights to publish the physical copies.

Since then they were released in 2019. Oseman also published them on WebToon in August of that same year.

There are four physical volumes of Heartstopper out now, with the fifth and final volume expected to be released in February 2023.

The series focuses on Charlie Spring, who develops a crush on Nick Nelson on the rugby team. Throughout the series, we watch as Charlie and Nick’s relationship develops and how they handle it.

In the Netflix series, Kit Connor portrays Nick Nelson, who is a Year 11 member of the rugby team. The show focuses on the relationship between Charlie and Nick and how it blossoms into romance.

Since the show first debuted, it has gained significant support due to its refreshing take on LGBTQ relationships.

Fans will be relieved to know that it’s also been renewed for not just one more season but two. The news surprised many, being announced only one month after it first premiered on Netflix.

With the success of the show and Nick Nelson’s own bisexuality, many fans and curious viewers have wondered whether the Heartstopper stars relate to their characters’ sexualities.

However, Connor has been uncomfortable with the speculation and noted how damaging it could be.

Kit Connor On Sexuality

Unfortunately, actors have to deal with a great deal of speculation on their sexuality and relationships, and Connor has to contend with this a lot.

Since Heartstopper premiered, there have been numerous questions regarding whether Connor is part of the LGBTQ community, and he is rightfully concerned with the public pressure about opening up about it.

Connor and many members of the Heartstopper cast are still incredibly young, with many still in their teenage years.

While some cast members are openly out, such as Joe Locke and Yasmin Finney, not every cast member will be as comfortable with labeling their sexuality and defining it.

While Connor is comfortable with his own sexuality, he has gone on record to state that he doesn’t want to put a label on it, especially not publicly.

Since starring in the show, many fans have speculated about his sexuality on social media, confusing him. After all, he’s right because it is 2022.

Overall, he’s pointed out the issues with speculating about someone’s sexuality and making assumptions based on their mannerisms. It’s a problematic approach and something that Heartstopper also focuses on.

After all, in Heartstopper, while Charlie is openly out at their all-boys school, Nick is viewed as the quintessential straight lad by everyone else. If anything, Heartstopper is a series that disproves these stereotypes.

As far as Connor’s sexuality is, it is of no actual public concern. Everyone is allowed a degree of privacy, and so long as we know that Connor is outright against discrimination against the community, is that not enough?

Heartstopper Cast At Pride

On the 2nd of July 2022, members of the Heartstopper cast, including Kit Connor, appeared at London’s Pride march.

The weekend marked London Pride’s 50th anniversary, so the cast members appeared to show their support for the community.

At Pride, a group of homophobic protesters appeared, and many members of the march voiced their discontent with them.

In videos, you can see Connor, Joe Locke, Sebastian Croft, Jenny Walser, Tobie Donovan, Corinna Brown, and Kizzy Edgell dancing to Whitney Houston in front of them while wearing Pride flags.

After the Heartstopper cast appeared at Pride, many fans refused to believe that someone not in the LGBTQ+ community would appear there.

However, many forget that Pride supports the community and for people to be themselves, so it is unsurprising that most of the cast would appear to show their support.

After all, Heartstopper is the representation many people have wanted for some time.

Final Thoughts

Not everyone needs to label their sexuality, and Kit Connor is among this group. While he is comfortable with his sexuality, he doesn’t feel the need to share it with the public.

Instead, he’s voiced his concern about how fans have made assumptions about his sexuality based on his character.

Overall, he is allowed his right to privacy, especially as he and many of the cast are still teenagers.

It is everyone’s choice to decide who they come out to, and everyone should be able to do this at their own pace without any external pressures.

Truthfully, it should be enough to know that he’s a vocal supporter of the LGBTQ community.
