The trans community still faces an absurd level of adversity on a day-to-day basis.
The fight for equality amongst their own gender, in the eyes of the rest of the gender spectrum, and in some cases, even in the thoughts of their own loved ones, goes on.

The goal is the normalization of trans people in the hearts of all humans, and one of the best things we can do to achieve this is to spread awareness of the cause.
Thankfully, the trans children of the following 15 celebrities are helping to do just that!
Cher (Chaz Bono)
Cher has been a staunch supporter of the LGBQ community over the years, which only makes us love her more, especially as she’s been so supportive of her transgender son, Chaz Bono.
Though she admitted she did have to wrestle with the thought of Chaz’s transition initially, her motherly worries eased almost immediately after discussing it freely with Chaz (then Chastity).
In the hopes of spreading awareness of as well as within the trans community, Chaz made a documentary about his entire transition process, entitled, Becoming Chaz.
In response to some of the negative reactions to her son’s journey, Cher reported that “Chaz is so happy, so unbelievably happy, and I don’t know what people’s problems are.
They’re fearful, and they just don’t understand how to react to it”. Stick it to ‘em, Cher!
Dwayne Wade & Gabrielle Union
The world should look at Dwayne Wade and Gabrielle Union’s response to their child, Zaya, coming out as trans as an example of how parents should act in such a scenario.
At the age of 12, Zaya discovered who she truly was and asked that her father and stepmom support her and help to spread her message, a mission the couple got to work with immediately, sharing Zaya’s story during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
Dwayne spoke out on the subject again in conversation with Robin Roberts on Good Morning America, remarking “I’m not going to sit here and act like we have all the answers.
I’m not going to sit here and act like before our child came home and sat us down, that we weren’t ignorant parents when it comes to the world.
When I say we’re learning from our 12-year-old, we’re literally learning from our child.”
Jamie Lee Curtis
Partway through the summer of 2021, during an interview for AARP Magazine, revered actor, Jamie Lee Curtis revealed that the youngest of her children is transgender and that she and husband Christopher Guest “have watched in wonder and pride as our son became our daughter, Ruby.”
She candidly admitted “I am new at it. I am not someone who is pretending to know much about it. And I’m going to blow it, I’m going to make mistakes.
I would like to try to avoid making big mistakes.”
And on another occasion, she mentioned to People that she was opening up to “new terminology and words” in order to best support Ruby.
Fast forward a summer, and Ruby and her partner Kynthia are tying the knot, and in true Moira Rose fashion (sans the glam pope getup, unfortunately), Curtis proudly takes the role of officiant.
That’s one dreamy mom!
Charlize Theron
Charlize Theron’s child felt from the age of 3 that she had been born the wrong gender, and rather than meet this revelation with fear and doubt, the lessons of her own childhood permitted belief and acceptance of Jackson just the way she is.
Speaking about her own upbringing, Theron said “I grew up in a country (South Africa) where people lived with half-truths and lies and whispers and nobody said anything outright, and I was raised very specifically not to be like that.
I was taught by my mom that you have to speak up; you have to be able to know that, when this life is over, you’ll have lived the truth you’re comfortable with, and that nothing negative can come of that.”
Preach, grandmamma Theron!
Cynthia Nixon
Mostly known for her role as Miranda in the infamous Sex and the City series and movies, in 2018, Cynthia posted a photo of her standing beside her gowned, transgender son, Seph, on his graduation day.
Nixon spoke about what a non-event her son’s announcement was, mentioning that “There was some general, you know, voicings of support, but generally it was not a big deal.”
She sees the calm acceptance of the news as proof of the progress we are making as a society towards understanding and loving one another unconditionally.
Annette Bening & Warren Beatty
This power couple of the acting world revealed that their son, Stephen Ira Beatty, came out as trans at the age of 14, and by all accounts, their support has been unflinching from that day.
This foundation of love and understanding helped Stephen grow up to become a successful writer — His poetic work often centers around the LBGTQ+ struggle for acceptance.
Annette went on record to say. “He’s an articulate, thoughtful person, and I’m very, very proud of him.”
Ally Sheedy
Breaking out as a member of The Breakfast Club, after having a child with her now ex-husband, David Lansbury, Ally Sheedy found herself accepted into another rather exclusive club… that of celebrities with trans children.
Her son, Becket Lansbury, had been gender fluid and gender queer for a long time when he decided that, in his soul, he identified as a man and would like to start taking hormones to prevent further divergence between his physical and inner self.
Even before that moment, Sheedy had been a fierce activist for LGBTQ + rights, and she continues to champion her son, showing infinite compassion, love, and support.
R. Kelly & Drea Kelly
Unfortunately, not all parents of transgender children are bastions of hope.
As the world now knows, R. Kelly is a deeply disturbed and problematic individual facing 30 years imprisonment for exploitation of a child, racketeering, bribery, and sex trafficking.
The good news is that, Drea Kelly, Kelly’s ex-wife of 10 years, is incredibly supportive of their trans son Jaah, stating, “They [our kids] have to go out and fight every day and face this world.
The first battle should not be at home.” She also went on to say, “I tell Jay all the time, baby you won the war.
You’re gonna have a lot of battles but you won the war. Mama accepts and loves you for who you are.”
Sade
In 2016, the No Ordinary Love singer’s son, Izaak, announced via his then-private Instagram account that he would be moving ahead with hormone therapy.
Then, in mid-2019, Izaak continued his transition with gender reassignment surgery.
A very private person, Sade has made no public comment on the topic of her son’s transition, but Izaak himself gave us a glimpse into the loving relationship he shares with his mother, writing, “Thank you for fighting with me to complete the man I am.
Thank you for your encouragement when things are hard, for the love you give me. The purest heart. I love you so much. Queen of queens.”
No ordinary love, indeed!
Cindy Barshop
In 2019, one of the Real Housewives of New York City, Cindy Barshop spoke to People about Jesse – one of her 12-year-old twins – discovering that he is transgender, and her attitude towards this development in her life was a thing of beauty:
“When a child feels comfortable and open, identity issues are able to be discussed in the family environment… I believe living in and creating an open and positive home so they are able to express themselves.”
Meri Brown & Kody Brown
In late June of 2022, Leon Brown, the only child of Sister Wives stars, Meri and Kody Brown announced on social media that, despite “not having almost any of my shit figured out… I am trans.”
Meri Brown, shared the post along with the caption, “You are my sunshine.”, But Kody Brown, father to 17 other children and proponent of plural marriage, is yet to make a public statement regarding Leon.
Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie
Granted, it’s unconfirmed that Shiloh – a child of the “Brangelina” era – identifies as trans.
Still, from a very early age, they were very clear about the fact they wanted to be a boy and had even requested that people refer to them as John instead of Shiloh.
Elon Musk & Justine Wilson
In April 2022, one of the eldest of multi-billionaire businessman Elon Musk’s children filed documents in an LA court to change her legal name and gender.
The judge granted her requests, officially making her Vivian Jenna Wilson.
Musk has tweeted that he supports trans rights, yet Vivian’s claims that she changed her last name to Wilson due to a desire to distance herself as much as possible from her father, as well as his occasional transphobic jabs targeting Grimes and new partner, Chelsea Manning, seem to indicate otherwise.
Khary Payton
On June 15th of 2020, Khary, who you probably know better as the faux-British, faux-king, dreadlocked dreamboat Ezekiel in The Walking Dead, shared on Instagram that his son Karter was, physically speaking, born a girl, but identifies completely as a boy.
In this post, Khary added, “Man, there is nothing more beautiful than watching your child feel the joy of exploring what it means to be true to themselves.”
Colin Mochrie
Colin Mochrie, the Scottish-Canadian producer, actor, writer and comic best known for his appearances on Whose Line Is It Anyway, shared that Kinley, his daughter, came out as trans at the age of 25.
He worried about her safety at first, but quickly assumed a stance of support, love, and acceptance.
Final Thoughts
Although not all the trans children mentioned above have the full support of both their celebrity parents, it’s heartwarming to see that the vast majority of them do, and even those that don’t have found acceptance and love in this world regardless!
